A leopard can't change its spots and the NDP's Nahanni Fontaine can't change her bias against white people. We got another taste of her advocacy for aboriginal apartheid in Hansard's official account of debate in the Legislature last week. Fontaine, the NDP's parachute candidate in St. John's riding, was promoting the need for native midwives and doulas for pregnant "indigenous women" in  northern Manitoba ( what about the rest of the expectant mothers? - ed.) when she --- oh, so casually --- started talking about how traumatic it was for these women to be in the care of  ...  White medical professionals.  "And so, as the minister knows, you know, indigenous women have to come to the south to have their babies. Often, they come without any supports.  They are immersed in white space." Taking a page out of the Putin playbook, the Manitoba NDP government is frantically rewriting history to justify its racially-oriented takeover of the long-running women's shelter Osborne House. Through a series of strategic leaks to reporters at the Winnipeg Free Press, the NDP has created a false narrative akin to Putin's explanation of how Russia had to --- just had to --- seize Crimea from Ukraine because of all the injustices the evil Ukrainians were imposing on Russians who lived there. Gord Steeves has suddenly been propelled into being the frontrunner in Winnipeg's mayoral race. And it's not for something he said or did. He can thank his wife for the push. What? What are you talking about? The MSM says his campaign is finished because of a four-year-old Facebook post by his wife complaining about being harrassed by "drunk native guys." Hardly.  Because EVERYBODY KNOWS IT'S TRUE! And that means that finally somebody is talking about something that people care about. Like WHY DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG IS SUCH A SHITHOLE. Steeves' support is solidified by the trumped-up attack on him, and voters who haven't paid much, if any, attention to the campaign for mayor now know his name.  And they also know he's the only candidate they've heard saying what they want to hear -- clean up downtown. He's not jabbering about some abstract "vision" of some future city in some non-existent dreamland.  He's talkin...

What is racism? Apparently that's the question on everybody's lips. You can't pick up a newspaper without reading somebody's opinion of what racism is.   That's funny because for more than 50 years nobody has had any doubt about what racism is. Children and adults, men and women knew without question that racism was prejudice against someone because of the colour of their skin.    See?  Simple. But now that we've discovered that Eric Robinson, the Deputy Premier of Manitoba, is a racist by that definition, journalists, academics, ethicists, commentators of all descriptions are racing to the ramparts to say it isn't so .     That we've been using the wrong definition of racism for more than half a century.  That the true definition is a Marxist interpretation of class and power relationships, not skin colour after all. Reeling from the revelation that an NDP cabinet minister put his racist beliefs down in writing,  the government of Manitoba went directly to Premier Greg Selinger's primary defences --- smear and intimidation. But when the brave women on the board of Osborne House, the women's shelter that uncovered the racist email sent by Deputy Premier Eric Robinson, refused to buckle under Selinger's contemptible attacks, the NDP had to come up with a Plan B. Plan B :  when caught red-handed espousing racism, redefine racism . Problem solved.
